The Hsiao-Chuan Liu's Lab at the University of Massachusetts (UMass) Amherst BME is mainly focused on ultrasound and OCT-based elastography imaging for exploring biomechanics linked to diseases ranging from cellular scales by using acoustic tweezers to tissue scales by using medical ultrasound, from wave numerical simulations, theoretical derivation and phantom studies to experimental validations, and from basic research (such as elastical and wave behaviors in cell-encapsulated scaffolds, soft materials, and more) to translational applications into clinical settings (such as wearable ultrasound, shear wave elastography, and more). We also develop computer-aided diagnosis methods for medical imaging, segmentation methods, texture analysis, and classifications using machine learning.
